15 – 18 July 2019 (3 nights)
From the Rookery Hall Hotel, nr Nantwich
The Royal Horticultural Society will once again bring a spectacular celebration of flowers and gardening to the north-west of England with the RHS Flower Show set in the magnificent parklands at Tatton Park. Full of spirit, colour and all that’s great about gardening with vibrant floral displays and stunning gardens there’s lots inspiration for your garden or just to enjoy new ideas and great designs. The tour also includes visits to some stunning private gardens in Cheshire – many only open very occasionally and all very different and varied.
Monday 15 July: The tour stays for three nights at the 4 star Rookery Hall Hotel, near Nantwich, five miles from Crewe. This elegant Victorian mansion retaining many of its original features is set in picturesque parkland. A luxury hotel with extensive spa facilities including an indoor pool and award winning restaurant
Tuesday 16 July: there will be garden visits to: Tattenhall Hall described as an “intoxicating” English garden where the two owners have jointly designed a garden of epic proportion that includes wild flower meadows, a walled garden and colour themed borders that surround the Jacobean house. Manley Knoll an early 1900s Arts and Crafts garden with magnificent views across the Cheshire plain. Covering 6 acres, divided into different rooms encompassing parterres, clipped yew hedging, ornamental ponds and herbaceous borders and a stunningly restored and transformed quarry garden. Stretton Old Hall recently featured on BBC Gardener’s World is a new garden of 5 acres with wonderful vistas and a planting style which is described as controlled exuberance. The garden is beautifully designed with a definite emphasis upon perennials, colour, form and scale from the walled kitchen garden to the wild flower meadows. A light lunch will be included in local village teashop adjacent to Tattenhall Hall.
Wednesday 17 July: RHS Flower Show Tatton– this is member’s day which is generally quieter arriving early to get ahead of the traffic and to allow you plenty of time to enjoy the show. Also if you wish you can independently visit the House and gardens looked after by the National Trust. On the return to Rookery Hall there will be a late afternoon visit to Peover Hall Gardens. The gardens at Peover Hall are set in 15 acres and feature five walled gardens filled with clipped box, topiary, roses, lily pond and kitchen garden.
Thursday 18 July: First a visit to the private garden at Mayfield near Tarporley. A mature English garden with traditional planting and lots of vibrant colour, variety and interest throughout the year. Finally the garden at Abbeywood and a light lunch in their restaurant before departure. A superb setting near the Delamere Forest, surrounded by mature and new woodlands. Six acres of informal and formal Gardens, all different and distinctive, a wealth of colour with some very exotic plantings that continue to come to the fore as summer progresses.
