Magical Private Gardens of the Cotswolds
Staying at the Ettington Park Hotel,
nr Stratford on Avon
15 – 18 June 2020 (3 nights)
This new Cotswold garden tour includes superb gardens with exclusive visits to some very rarely open. Ettington Park is a luxury four star country house hotel, six miles from Stratford-upon-Avon. The house is a Neo-Gothic mansion that looks to be straight from a fairy-tale, round turrets, square towers, balustrade balconies and carriage porch together with the ruins of a romantic church in the 40 acres of grounds.
Ablington Manor “A magnificent house and gardens almost untouched by the passing of time” (Country Life). The tranquil four-acre garden with a river running through surrounds the 16th-century Grade I listed manor house. There are herbaceous borders, a small walled garden with rose pergolas, a woodland garden and unusual yew topiary. Eastleach House is large quintessential English garden beautifully designed with outstanding plants and inspirational colour. Lovely vistas, walled and rill gardens, herbaceous borders, yew and box hedges, iris and peony borders, lily ponds, formal herb garden and topiary. Kiftsgate, for everyone a dream garden, perched on the edge of the Cotswolds with wonderful views. Kiftsgate reflects gardening through the 20th century. Three generations of women gardeners have designed, planted and sustained this garden. The upper gardens around the house are planted to give harmonious colour schemes, whilst the sheltered lower gardens recreate the atmosphere of warmer countries and of course the giant Kiftsgate rose rampages here.
Wychwood Manor. The 1920s house and Arts and Crafts style gardens have been recently restored by the very talented garden designers, Julian and Isabel Bannerman - a strong framework of walls, hornbeam hedging and yew topiary is enhanced and softened by roses under planted with lavender, erysimum and euphorbia. Asthall Manor, six acres of dramatic planting surround the lovely manor house. The gardens again designed by the Bannermans offer 'a beguiling mix of traditional and contemporary' but this year the gardens also host “on form” , the only exhibition in the country dedicated exclusively to stone sculpture. Westwell Manor an inspirational garden, the creation of the late landscape designer Anthea Gibson, with numerous garden rooms and superb planting.
Admington Hall is a continually evolving 10 acre garden with an established structure of innovative planning and planting. A large walled garden, wild flower meadows and extensive modern topiary. Morton Hall, one of county’s best kept secrets. Perched atop an escarpment with breath taking views, hidden behind a tall hedge lies a unique garden of outstanding beauty. The eight acres of garden and park combine historic and new features providing the backdrop for a collection of nearly a thousand plant varieties. Sumptuous herbaceous summer borders, a striking potager, a majestic woodland rockery and an elegant Japanese Stroll Garden with tea house.
