Handel’s Messiah
St George’s Chapel Windsor
Private Tour of the
Royal Military Academy Sandhurst
and a visit to Windsor Castle.

From the Mercure Windsor Castle Hotel
08 – 10 December 2010 (2 nights)

Something to look forward to at the end of the year!  The concert that takes place before Christmas in St George’s Chapel, one Britain’s most beautiful ecclesiastical buildings, is a unique occasion and always sells out months in advance, but we have an allocation of top price seats for this year’s special performance of Handel’s Messiah performed by the Choir of St George’s Chapel Windsor.  The tour will include ticket entry for Windsor Castle and also a visit to the magnificent grounds, buildings and chapel of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the elite training establishment not only for officers of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces but also worldwide – many Kings, Sultans, Princes and Prime Ministers have at one time been through the rigorous training that underpins the Academy’s world famous leadership training programmes.

Wednesday 8 December
:
Check into the hotel in time for a welcome drink and dinner.

Thursday 9 December
:
Depart by coach for the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst – there will an audiovisual presentation on Sandhurst on arrival followed by a tour which will include the Royal Memorial Chapel, Old College, originally designed by James Wyatt and where the Adjutant rides his grey charger up the steps at the end of the Sovereign’s Parade, and The Indian Army Memorial Room.  Refreshments followed by a guided coach tour of the grounds, pointing out the various statues, military trophies and other buildings which form part of the Academy, before visiting the Central Library with over 180,000 books for the use of the Officer Cadets and which also houses many of the Academy’s finest historic portraits and several collections of medals and porcelain.  Return to the hotel for late lunch and an afternoon to enjoy visiting Windsor Castle with a special exhibition.

Early dinner in the hotel, then walk the short distance to take your seats for the concert.  St George’s Chapel could not be a more magnificent setting for Messiah, one of Handel’s most famous works and perhaps one of the greatest works in the history of music.  The Chapel Choir together with invited orchestra and soloists will be conducted by Timothy Byram-Wigfield.  Return to the hotel for dessert and coffee. Depart at leisure Friday 10 December.
