The
Sunday Times Oxford
Literary Festival
takes place at Christ
Church in Oxford.
We have booked the
highlights towards
the end of the Festival
for Heritage Touring
clients. This will
include the final
black tie dinner
with accompanying
guest speakers in
the Tudor Hall at
Christ Church one
of the most beautiful
and renowned of
the Oxford Colleges.
You will be staying
at the ideally located
5* Randolph Hotel,
ten minutes walk
from the College.
The programme of
speakers is never
finalised at this
very early stage
but as in previous
years the calibre
of participates
is extraordinarily
high and includes
top authors, broadcasters
and writers - it
is very much considered
to be the place
to be within the
literary world.
You have the option
to choose 4 lectures
of the best available
on the Friday afternoon,
Saturday and Sunday.
Friday 04 April:
Our guide will
meet you in the
hotel at 1300 to
show you the way
to the first lecture
in the early afternoon.
(Luggage can be
stored by the hotel
before check-in).
There will then
be a Welcome Reception
followed by dinner
in the early evening.
Saturday 05 April
All the events over
this weekend will
be situated in and
around Christ Church;
this famous college
is part of the history
of England. Charles
I held his court
here during the
civil war; thirteen
British prime ministers
came here as young
undergraduates.
Alice in Wonderland
was written here
and the great Tudor
Hall features in
the Harry Potter
films. Against this
backdrop you will
hear writers talk
about their books,
their inspiration
and their passions.
During the festival
week, more than
200 writers will
talk about their
books - last year's
programme included
Philip Pullman,
Alexander McCall
Smith, Sandy Toksvig,
Edna O'Brian, Antonia
Fraser and George
Alagiah.
This evening we
have secured places
at the final dinner
of this event to
be held in the College's
magnificent Tudor
Hall. It also has
a more recent claim
to fame: as Hogwart's
Hall in the early
Harry Potter films.
Two well-known writers
will speak at the
dinner. The Festival
dinner is the highlight
of the week and
includes a drinks
reception followed
by a three-course
dinner with wine
- this is a black
tie event and will
be an experience
in itself.
Sunday 06 April
The programme will
be completed, and
speakers for this
weekend will be
known by the end
of October but not
at the time of writing
this brochure. Those
who book this short
break will receive
the detailed itinerary
and list of possible
lectures you will
have the opportunity
to make your choice
and we will ensure
the tickets are
held. Extra nights
can be booked (subject
to availability)
to extend your stay
at the Festival
and book additional
lectures. Departure
otherwise will be
on Sunday afternoon
after the final
event.
