THE MUSIC ON FIRE - ON HER MAJESTY’S (SECRET) SERVICE
FIREWORK SON ET LUMIERE WITH CONCERT ORCHESTRA
LUNCH CRUISING ON THE RIVER THAMES
From The Savill Court Hotel, Nr Windsor Great Park
19 - 21 SEPTEMBER 2008 (2 nights)
A very special weekend with the unique opportunity to enjoy from the comfort of the Royal Box another spectacular extravaganza masterminded by Major Sir Michael Parker at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. The evening includes a champagne reception and dinner during which the 120 piece concert orchestra, 100 strong choir, trumpeters and military bands with accompanying pyrotechnics, fireworks and specially invited well-known guest performers will present a full concert programme. Part of this will celebrate the centenary year of the birth of Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond, and once himself a cadet at Sandhurst. Major Sir Michael Parker, a highly experienced producer and creative director of large-scale events is renowned for organising many national occasions which have included the London Golden Jubilee Weekend Festival in June 2003, the Queen Mother’s 100th Birthday Celebrations in 2000, the Royal Tournament and the All the Queen’s Horses at Windsor. Music on Fire is being staged to raise funds and support the invaluable work undertaken by The Army Benevolent Fund.
Friday 19 September Arrive at the hotel for a welcome drink and dinner. Savill Court is a 4-star hotel set in its own secluded grounds near Egham on the edge of Windsor Great Park.
Saturday 20 September An executive coach will take you to Maidenhead to board a luxury Riverboat for a three-hour cruise to Windsor. Maidenhead Steam has operated elegant vessels in the Thames valley for over twenty years and has a justifiable reputation for providing high quality vessels and excellent service. During the cruise there will be a commentary on the ‘Rich and Famous’ who live along the banks of the Thames. A light lunch with wine will be served during your journey. Return to your hotel mid-afternoon to prepare for the evening event.
Depart early evening for Sandhurst and “Music on Fire”. Heritage Touring have secured top price covered seating for this black tie event in the Royal Box, where there will be a champagne reception, wine and three-course dinner before the start of Sir Michael Parkers’ On Her Majesty’s (secret) Service Music Firework Extravaganza. Final programme very much under wraps – but with the resources of the British Army’s Massed Bands, Pipes and Drums and a large concert orchestra and chorus this is sure to be an exciting evening and will undoubtedly live up to its unique reputation with all the special hallmarks of excellence that Sir Michael has conjured up in the past for constructing imaginative themes and a magical Son et Lumiere.
Music on Fire has been 18 months in the planning and unlike some concerts where fireworks form the finale, throughout this show spectacular pyrotechnics are an integral part of the performance. There will be vast projections on the Georgian frontage of the Old College Building at the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst and undoubtedly many surprises in this truly awesome spectacle. Finally back to your hotel.
Sunday 21 September Breakfast at leisure before checking out of the hotel – there are numerous other places to visit nearby which your guide can advise or supply details.
