Join us for a winter break at the Macdonald Castle Hotel, Windsor. We are offering a private morning tour and rare opportunity to go behind the scenes at Windsor Castle to see the medieval Great Kitchen, 'the oldest, substantially unchanged and still working kitchen in the country'. In the afternoon you will see, and hear about, more treasures from David Battie of the Antiques Roadshow, who will talk on the subject of British Royalty and their works of art

Monday 23 October Arrival in time for the Welcome Reception and dinner in the hotel

Tuesday 24 October A leisurely breakfast before walking over the road to Windsor Castle with your guide. Your visit begins in the Castle's Winchester Tower with refreshments and an introduction to Windsor as a working royal palace. There will be an illustrated talk charting the history of the Great Kitchen from the 13th century to the present day. This is followed by a guided tour of the medieval Undercroft and Great Kitchen, neither of which are open to the general public. You are then free to visit the magnificent State Apartments, which you may tour at your leisure with an audio guide. These rooms are regularly used for State and ceremonial occasions and are furnished with some of the finest works of art from the Royal Collection.

After a light buffet lunch in the hotel you will be entertained by David Battie, known for his many appearances on the Antiques Road Show. David is a very knowledgeable and witty speaker. His subject today is "British Royalty, through Thick and Thin in Works of Art". The inhabitants of these islands have swung between adulation for their royalty to chopping off their heads and many of these events have been commemorated - especially in ceramics; the poor man's gold. This talk ranges widely and is guaranteed to amuse and amaze.

The afternoon ends with a cup of tea and you are then free to enjoy the evening and dinner at individually booked times.

Wednesday 25 October Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before departure.
