This
popular short break includes a Private Evening Tour of Buckingham
Palace preceded during the day with a visit to Spencer House and
Clarence House.
Sunday 02 September Join us for a welcome drink
and to meet your guide. Dinner is optional this evening.
Monday 03 September Depart at 0930 for a short
walk to Spencer House where we have arranged for a private guided
tour. Spencer House was built in 1757 for the first Lord Spencer
and is London’s finest surviving eighteenth-century town
house. It has regained its full splendour after a painstaking ten-year
restoration and eight rooms are now open to view and wonderfully
described during our private tour by a very knowledgeable house
guide.
You
will be free from 1100 to explore the area or return to your hotel
before departing for Clarence House at 1200. Clarence House stands
beside St James’s Palace, and was built between 1825 and
1827 to the designs of John Nash for Prince William Henry, Duke
of Clarence, who resided there as King William IV from 1830 until
1837. During its history the house has been altered, reflecting
the changes in occupancy over nearly two centuries. Clarence House
was the London home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother
from 1953 until 2002. It was also the home of the Prince of Wales
between the ages of one and three, when Her Majesty the Queen,
then Princess Elizabeth, and The Duke of Edinburgh moved there
following their marriage in 1947. The Prince of Wales has moved
from York House in St James’s Palace back to Clarence House,
which is also the official London residence for the Princes William
and Harry. The rest of the afternoon is free before departing for
Buckingham Palace at 1630 .
We will supply transport in the evening to take you for your Private
Evening Visit to Buckingham Palace for an exclusive private two-hour
tour with a Palace Guide. Guests will be taken through the State
Rooms on a guided tour and the history and architecture of the
Palace will be explained. Your Palace Guide will also provide an
introduction to the paintings, furniture and works of art, which
decorate these magnificent rooms. The shop will remain open for
you at the end of the tour; there is a wide range of souvenirs
and gifts many of which are designed and manufactured exclusively
for the Royal Collection. A glass of wine will be provided at the
end of the tour.
