The North Yorkshire Moors will again provide a wonderful setting, a superb hotel and an itinerary giving ample opportunity to enjoy the magic of the moors while discovering the fabulous gardens that border them.  Plus, as always, something different: a visit to Ripon’s stunning cathedral before cruising by barge the full length of the Ripon Canal (three locks) to Newby Hall where the gardens are outstanding and feature one of Europe’s longest double herbaceous borders.  Gardens include the striking contemporary walled garden at Scampston, designed by Piet Oudolf, Sleightholme Dale Lodge, a breathtaking setting on the edge of the moors and filled with colour and exuberance, and Jackson’s Wold with sweeping views across the Vale of Pickering and a walled garden of old shrub roses intermingling with a profusion of perennials.

A visit to the centre in the small village of Kilburn to see the results from a single acorn to a finished piece of beautifully hand crafted oak furniture, one man’s work from start to finish – Robert Thompson, The Mouseman.  It will be possible also to enjoy tours of the lovely Georgian house at Newby Hall, renowned for its exquisite 18th century Robert Adam’s interiors, and Scampston -  the best example of an English Country house but also a family home with fine furniture and a wealth of art treasures. Finally Mount Grace Priory, found in a lovely tranquil woodland setting and offering a glimpse into the lives of the former residents, Carthusian Monks.  Lunch in the attractive town of Yarm before returning to Guisborough for a hidden gem of a garden, Tudor Croft, with superb planting, wonderful shrubs and immaculate in every way.

The Gisborough Hall Hotel, near Middlesborough, privately owned but managed by Macdonald Hotels, a Victorian ancestral home but now a four-star country house hotel with award winning restaurant and spectacular views of the Cleveland Hills – a top favourite hotel with our clients.

Monday 2 - 9 July:  Arrive and check into the Gisborough Hall Hotel before welcome drink in the drawing room followed by dinner.

Tuesday 3 - 10 July:  Travel down the east side of the moors to visit the garden at Jackson’s Wold. Continue to Scampston to enjoy the garden before lunch is served in the restaurant, and a tour of the house afterwards.  Then to Fadmoor and Sleightholme Dale Lodge before returning across the moors to the hotel.

Wednesday 4 - 11 July:  The morning includes a visit to Ripon Cathedral before boarding the small barges (open but with awning) to cruise the 2½ miles of the canal to Newby Hall.  Breaks in the two-hour journey for opening locks, and a picnic lunch will be provided en-route.  Arrive at Newby to enjoy the gardens or those that prefer can opt to join a tour of the house.  Return to the hotel, stopping in Kilburn to see the workshops and visit centre for the “Mouseman”.  Café and craft shop.

Thursday 5 - 12 July.  Travel by coach to Mount Grace Priory, then on to Yarm and find lunch in the “the best high street in Britain” before returning to Guisborough and the lovely garden at Tudor Croft. Back to the hotel by 4.30 pm to depart or enjoy an extra night.
