Three Choirs Festival – Hereford Cathedral
Three Choral and Orchestral
Cathedral Concerts

Visit Hay on Wye,
Hergest Croft and Black and White Villages
From the Green Dragon Hotel, Hereford
21 – 24 July 2012 (three nights)

Hereford Cathedral provides an historic, exhilarating, uplifting and quintessentially English setting for three choral and orchestral concerts that are part of the Three Choirs Festival 2012.  Top price tickets for a programme that includes Haydn ‘Creation’ with the Three Choirs Festival Chorus and Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Geraint Bowen. The Philharmonia Orchestra with Julian Lloyd Webber performing Delius Cello Concerto and other works to include Stravinsky The Firebird Suite, Debussy La Mer and Ravel Bolero conducted by Diego Mathuez. “All at Sea” – the Festival Chorus and Philharmonia Orchestra to include Mendelssohn Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage and Vaughan Williams A Sea Symphony conducted by Adrian Partington.

The Green Dragon Hotel is chosen purely as a base for its ideal location in the centre of Hereford opposite the cathedral. It is a comfortable hotel with a certain amount of character and, although perhaps not our normal level of luxury hotel, you are in the centre of Hereford.    You can enjoy the Festival over three nights and might like to purchase additional tickets for other events during the day - a programme will be supplied on booking and already we have an additional allocation of seats for Bach Brandenburg Concertos on Sunday afternoon (advise on booking).  There is a Festival Eucharist in the Cathedral on Sunday morning with Haydn Nelson Mass, and in the afternoon you might like to join a guided walk of Hereford or visit the Mappi Mundi in Hereford Cathedral.

Monday morning there will be an excursion by coach to see the lovely timber framed lime-washed houses that can be found in the Black and White villages just north west of Hereford.  A visit to the stunning gardens at Hergest Croft which lie in the heart of the Welsh Marches with dramatic views towards the Black Mountains then continue to Hay on Wye to explore ‘Book Town’, as it includes no less than 40 bookshops specialising in second-hand, antique and new books.   Return to Hereford mid afternoon in plenty of time for the evening concert.

Saturday 21 July: Check into the hotel, welcome drink before crossing to the Cathedral for dinner provided by Friends of the Cathedral and the evening concert.

Sunday 22 July:  Festival Eucharist, a guided walk of Hereford, buffet dinner in the hotel restaurant before evening concert.

Monday 23 July:  Tour by coach of villages, Hergest Croft and Hay on Wye.  Return mid-afternoon.  Buffet dinner in the hotel before evening concert.

Tuesday 24 July:  Check out of the hotel for departure – you may wish to buy tickets for the other festival events that morning.
