THE HAY ON WYE LITERARY FESTIVAL 2010
From the Green Dragon Hotel, Hereford
28– 31 May 2010 (3 nights) |
|
The Hay on Wye Festival continues to be the most sought after literary event not only for the audiences but also for writers, comedians, musicians, past presidents and present prime ministers! The greatest names in the literary world gather together on the outskirts of this very attractive small town, with its backdrop of hills that form part of the Brecon Beacons National Park, to share new visions of the literary world with some of the hundreds of visitors who return year after year to an event that is always buzzing with anticipation and ideas. The short break tour includes two days at the Festival with tickets for six major literary lectures and the opportunity to attend other talks and activities or just to soak up the atmosphere of this unique occasion. At this early stage we cannot be precise as to who will be taking part but will endeavour to purchase tickets for the highlights of these two days. There will be time to visit the little town of Hay, also known as Book Town, as it includes no less than 40 bookshops specialising in second-hand, antique and new books. You will be staying at the Green Dragon Hotel in the centre of Hereford, an historic but comfortable hotel with a certain amount of character chosen solely for the purpose of being within easy distance of Hay, close to the Cathedral and with good rail access. There is a large lounge and bar area to relax in and all bedrooms have en-suite facilities – parking is available either at the hotel or an adjacent NCP.
Friday 28 May: After checking into the hotel from 1400 hrs - there will be the opportunity for an afternoon guided tour of Hereford Cathedral. A magnificent building with some of the finest examples of Norman and Early English architecture and the historic medieval Mappa Mundi. This will be followed by a welcome drinks reception in the hotel before dinner is served in the main restaurant
Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 May: An executive coach will take you to Hay on Wye to enjoy the Festival and attend the various lectures. There is a regular mini-shuttle bus between the Festival Showground and the town (one mile approx) so you can explore the town at your leisure. On both days the coach will return you to the hotel in the early evening before dinner. Should you decide to book other evening lectures independently and return later normally there is a scheduled bus that returns to Hereford in the late evening.
Monday 31 May: Check out of your rooms before departure. You may consider returning to Hay or exploring the area independently.
A more detailed itinerary will be sent mid-April when we should have more details on participants and times.
