A wonderful opportunity to spend two days in Paris, travelling by Eurostar and staying at the exclusive and luxurious Westminster Hotel. One of the oldest hotels in Paris commanding a fantastic location in the heart of the city, completely renovated and beautifully furnished in the Louis XV style, original furniture, paintings and antique pieces adorn the bedrooms, elegant lounge and restaurant. There will be an evening dinner cruise on the River Seine with stunning views of the city as your boat gently
glides past the unforgettable floodlit landmarks. Also included, a private guided coach tour of the city before visiting the Musee d’Orsay and Musee Jacquemart Andre. There is time to explore, marvel at the shops all extravagantly decorated for Christmas and visit other museums, opportunities for Christmas shopping and of course to eat out in true Parisian style. Paris preparing for Christmas is stylish, chic and sophisticated making it a very festive city to visit at this time of year.
Thursday 11 December – midday Eurostar departure- meet your guide at St Pancras station before boarding your train – now with a journey time of only 2hr 10 mins to Paris. If you prefer you may join the train at Ebbsfleet International* (just off J2 M25 Bluewater/Dartford) where there is ample parking facilities. On arrival in Paris an executive coach will take you to the Westminster Hotel. This hotel is on the prestigious Rue de la Paix, close to Place Vendome and the Opera. In the early evening the coach will take you to the embarkation point for the river cruise – we have reserved tables to ensure good viewing and you will be served cocktails followed by a three course dinner with wine while sailing under the historic bridges that link this romantic city.
Friday 12 December – Our Paris guide will join the group to take you on a tour of the highlights of the city giving an insight into the history, culture and architecture. The first visit will be the Musee d’Orsay on the banks of the Seine, formerly a railway station built for the Universal Exhibition in 1900, it now houses a superb collection of French art with many impressionist masterpieces including Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh – your guide will show you this world famous collection. Lunch can found within the museum or nearby. The day continues with a visit to the Musee Jacquemart Andre – this
was the private residence of a husband and wife who devoted their lives to building their art collection. Wealthy banker Edouard Andre built the mansion on Boulevard Haussmann, he married a society painter Nelie Jacquemart and between them they amassed one of the finest collections of Italian and Oriental Art in France. The visit includes an excellent audio-guide in the house. The coach will then return to the hotel – with time still to shop in the late afternoon/evening – or view the extravagantly decorated shop windows on the Champs Elysees. Dine independently taking advantage of the restaurants that only Paris can offer or book a table in the one-star Michelin restaurant, Le Celadon within the hotel.
Saturday 13 December – The morning has been left so that you have the opportunity to explore, shop or visit other museums. The Louvre is within walking distance or perhaps join a fascinating tour of the Opera House next to the hotel. The coach will then transfer you from the hotel to the Gare de Nord before catching Eurostar back to London (again stopping at Ebbsfleet) – estimated arrival in London late afternoon.
