Derek Deane’s critically acclaimed production of Swan Lake caused a sensation at its premiere and has captivated audiences worldwide. The Royal Albert Hall is transformed into a magical lake for this spectacular full staged ‘in the round’ production. From your “lakeside” top price stall seats you can witness the charm and intimacy of English National Ballet’s magnificent company of over 120 performers. Tchaikovsky’s wonderful score features some of the most beautiful and memorable music in the classical ballet repertoire, together with spectacular sets, costumes and dramatic story line.
On the Saturday morning you will visit The Guildhall Art Gallery, located in the historic heart of the City next to the medieval Guildhall and established to display paintings and sculpture belonging to the Corporation of London. This magnificent art collection includes London scenes and portraits from 16/17th century to present day, Victorian paintings and Pre-Raphaelite works, and below the gallery you can view the remains of the Roman amphitheatre.
This is followed by a fascinating guided tour of the Freemasons’ Hall, headquarters of the United Grand Lodge of England and the principal meeting place for Masonic Lodges in London. The Grand Lodge has been in Great Queen Street since 1775, the present Hall being the third building on the site built between 1927/32 as a memorial to the Freemasons who died in the First World War. It is one of the finest Art Deco buildings in England.
Friday 18 June: Check into the hotel from 1500 hrs, welcome drink followed by dinner for those who choose this option.
Saturday 19 June: Depart by coach for the morning visits to Guildhall Art Gallery and Freemasons’ Hall, returning around 1300. Afternoon free before joining the coach which takes you to the Royal Albert Hall for the evening performance of Swan Lake.
Sunday 20 June: Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before departure.
