The Coronation Steam Weekend
– London to Edinburgh

Staying at the Macdonald Holyrood Hotel,
Edinburgh (two nights)

Saturday 15 May – Monday 17 May 2010

The Coronation is the ultimate in long distance high-speed steam and recreates the magic of days gone by when almost all travel between the two capitals was by train. This steam weekend operated by Steam Dreams from London King’s Cross into the heart of Scotland’s capital city will be hauled by Sir Nigel Gresley's legendary A4 Pacifics and it is hoped it will include the 60019 Bittern, the locomotive that has not been to Scotland since finishing its career there in the late 1960s.

Departing London King Cross around 0820, a stop will be made at Stevenage (0850) and then continue to York where there will be a break of around three hours where you might like to visit the National Railway Museum next to the station or take a city bus tour.  Departing York around 1400 hrs the train is due to arrive Waverley Station, Edinburgh around 2000 hrs. Our representative will meet you and take you to the hotel.  There is an option to start and finish this tour from York.

During both journeys you can choose to enjoy Pullman Dining, in the restored and refurbished 1950s coach, served with a champagne breakfast or brunch and later canapés, appetisers and a sumptuous four-course meal with complimentary wine. Alternatively, Premier dining with champagne breakfast or brunch, tea coffee and freshly baked breads and pastries and later a delicious four-course meal.  A licensed bar is available throughout the journey.  Requests for tables for two are subject to availability.

Your hotel is the comfortable 4 star Macdonald Holyrood Hotel situated in the heart of Edinburgh’s old town near the Palace of Holyroodhouse.  In order that you can enjoy and explore the city on Sunday we have included tickets for the Queens Gallery, where there is a remarkable exhibition showcasing 42 works of art from the “golden age” of 17th century Dutch landscapes, and a ticket for a guided tour on the Guide Friday sightseeing bus which stops next to the hotel and can be used to “hop on and hop off” in your own time throughout the historic highlights of the city.  Our Scottish guide can also advise and suggest ideas for enjoying your stay.  Breakfast is included on both nights and dinner in the hotel on the Sunday evening.

The return journey on Monday 17th May will depart Edinburgh, Waverley Station around 0915hrs and after a two hour break in York, will stop again at Stevenage arriving London at the latest by 2100hrs.

Steam Dreams will use its best efforts to ensure that the proposed locomotives, coaching stock, route and times run as above but reserves the right to amend or cancel any part of the tour at any time.  Steam Dreams/Heritage Touring cannot accept any responsibility for the action of third parties and is solely responsible to ensure passengers get to their return destination.
