ROYAL MILITARY ACADEMY SANDHURST
FROM THE MACDONALD FRIMLEY HALL, CAMBERLEY
10 - 12 AUGUST 2008

This exclusive short break based at the Macdonald Frimley Hall Hotel, starts with a visit to West Green House, a treat for music and garden lovers alike. You can explore the remarkable gardens and will be provided with picnic dinner before the performance of Johann Strauss's Die Fledermaus - a comic opera at its most glamorous best set amidst the glitterati of 19th century Viennese society. The following day will be spent visiting the magnificent grounds, buildings and chapel of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst - the elite training establishment not only for officers of Her Majesty's Armed Forces but also world wide - Kings, Sultans, Princes and Prime Ministers have all at one time been through the rigorous training that underpins the Academy's world famous leadership training programmes. Lunch will be served in the historic surroundings of the Wellington Room.

Sunday 10 August: Arrive at the hotel and check into your rooms. A welcome drink will be served at 1730 before departure by coach for this black tie evening at West Green House. Enjoy a glass of wine on arrival as you explore these lovely gardens before the start of the opera. The opera is a story of baffling mistaken identity and witty political comment set to a Strauss's well-loved medleys of waltzes, polkas and inspired musical moments. The evening's highlights is in Act II at Prince Orlofsky's decadent ball when a surprise guest entertains the company... and in true West Green style Marilyn Abbott the inspiration behind the garden and opera at West Green has a very special surprise awaiting you. The Opera is staged in the garden but the outside stage and seating are covered. A two course picnic supper will be served during the interval. Return to the hotel late evening.

Monday 11 August: The coach will depart for the short journey to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst - there will be coffee and an audiovisual presentation on Sandhurst on arrival followed by a tour which will include the Royal Memorial Chapel, Old College, originally designed by James Wyatt and where the Adjutant rides his grey charger up the steps at the end of the Sovereign's Parade and The Indian Army Memorial Room A two course lunch with wine will be served in the Wellington Room. The guide will then tour the grounds on the coach pointing out the various statues, military trophies and memorable and other buildings which form part of the Academy before visiting the Central Library with over 180,000 books for the use of the Officer Cadets and which also houses many of the Academy's finest historic portraits and several collections of medals and porcelain.
