of Johann Strauss's
Die Fledermaus -
a comic opera at
its most glamorous
best set amidst
the glitterati of
19th century Viennese
society. The following
day will be spent
visiting the magnificent
grounds, buildings
and chapel of the
Royal Military Academy
Sandhurst - the
elite training establishment
not only for officers
of Her Majesty's
Armed Forces but
also world wide
- Kings, Sultans,
Princes and Prime
Ministers have all
at one time been
through the rigorous
training that underpins
the Academy's world
famous leadership
training programmes.
Lunch will be served
in the historic
surroundings of
the Wellington Room.
Sunday 10 August:
Arrive at the hotel
and check into your
rooms. A welcome
drink will be served
at 1730 before departure
by coach for this
black tie evening
at West Green House.
Enjoy a glass of
wine on arrival
as you explore these
lovely gardens before
the start of the
opera. The opera
is a story of baffling
mistaken identity
and witty political
comment set to a
Strauss's well-loved
medleys of waltzes,
polkas and inspired
musical moments.
The evening's highlights
is in Act II at
Prince Orlofsky's
decadent ball when
a surprise guest
entertains the company...
and in true West
Green style Marilyn
Abbott the inspiration
behind the garden
and opera at West
Green has a very
special surprise
awaiting you. The
Opera is staged
in the garden but
the outside stage
and seating are
covered. A two course
picnic supper will
be served during
the interval. Return
to the hotel late
evening.
Monday 11 August:
The coach will depart
for the short journey
to the Royal Military
Academy Sandhurst
- there will be
coffee and an audiovisual
presentation on
Sandhurst on arrival
followed by a tour
which will include
the Royal Memorial
Chapel, Old College,
originally designed
by James Wyatt and
where the Adjutant
rides his grey charger
up the steps at
the end of the Sovereign's
Parade and The Indian
Army Memorial Room
A two course lunch
with wine will be
served in the Wellington
Room. The guide
will then tour the
grounds on the coach
pointing out the
various statues,
military trophies
and memorable and
other buildings
which form part
of the Academy before
visiting the Central
Library with over
180,000 books for
the use of the Officer
Cadets and which
also houses many
of the Academy's
finest historic
portraits and several
collections of medals
and porcelain.
Depart and return
to the hotel.
