Travel in the Pullman carriages of the famous Venice Simplon Orient-Express. Staying in Cornwall at the four-star Royal Duchy Hotel with its prime sea front location and dramatic views across the bay or the historic Greenbank Hotel located in an enviable position with views across the Fal estuary. On Saturday, lunch at Padstow at Rick Stein’s celebrated Seafood Restaurant with its wonderful reputation for imaginative cooking, and a visit to one of Cornwall’s impressive houses, Prideaux Place. Alternatively choose to visit two great Cornish gardens, the romantic Lost Gardens of Heligan and the legendary Eden Project. OR, alight from the train at Plymouth and stay at the four-star luxury Thurlestone Hotel, set in lovely gardens in a stunning rural coastal location near Salcombe. On Saturday a cruise up the River Dart to visit Greenway and a tour of Royal Naval College Dartmouth.
Friday 14 May: The British Pullman departs London’s Victoria Station at 09.30 hrs (tbc). You will enjoy a luxurious journey from London before arriving in Plymouth (15.30) and then Truro (17.15). Brunch with Bellini cocktails served upon departure followed by a three-course lunch with champagne, wine and coffee before arriving first in Devon to transfer to Thurlestone Hotel or continuing to Cornwall to transfer to The Royal Duchy Hotel/Greenbank Hotel. All hotels will have a welcome reception followed by dinner.
Saturday 15 May:
Cornwall: Choose either, a guided tour of the lovely house at Prideaux Place and a visit to the attractive Cornish fishing village of Padstow, before a three course set lunch including wine at the world famous Seafood Restaurant situated just across the quay from where the lobster boats and trawlers tie up. Or, visit the Lost Gardens of Heligan, the neglected and forgotten gardens now restored to their former glory, and in the afternoon the Eden Project - an inspiring achievement with a vast global garden of beautiful plants.Devon: Visit the port of Dartmouth with a return river cruise up the attractive River Dart to Greenway, the atmospheric house and woodland garden of Agatha Christie’s home; lunch may be obtained here or in Dartmouth. Then a private guided tour of the historic Britannia Royal Naval College, set high on a hill above the town, where officers have been trained for the Royal Navy since 1905. Please note: access to Greenway from the quay is up a steep gravel path Return to your hotel for dinner.
Sunday 16 May: Once again you board the Orient Express around mid-day from Truro or very early afternoon from Plymouth for the leisurely journey back to London enjoying a five-course lunch with champagne and wine before arriving back at Victoria Station about 2000 hrs.
