St David’s Day Celebrations
London – Cardiff by Steam Train
Hauled by the New A1 Class “Tornado” *
From the Cavendish Hotel, St James’s
28 February – 2 March 2010 (2 nights)
|
|
Return steam journey on St David’s Day from London Paddington, with many a leek and daffodil in evidence, travelling on Brunel’s Great Western Main Line through the Severn Tunnel to the Welsh capital, Cardiff. Time to enjoy an afternoon viewing the parade celebrating St David’s Day or to explore the city. Staying in London for two nights at the superbly located luxury Cavendish Hotel, St James’s.
*It is the intention that the new A1 Class Tornado should haul this train. Every effort has been made by the train operator to ensure this particular locomotive will be available for this tour but the nature of steam trains means this exact locomotive cannot be guaranteed!
In the golden age of travel it was equally important to enjoy the journey in style, as it was to reach the destination, travelling in comfort with good food and drink. We can offer either Pullman Style, the ultimate in luxury, with wood panelled carriages, table lamps, welcome glasses of champagne, breakfast brunch on the outward journey and canapés and appetisers before being served a four course meal with half bottle of wine on the return. Or Premier Dining with champagne brunch with tea, coffee and pastries and on the return a delicious four-course dinner served at tables either for two or four in traditional carriages.
Sunday 28 February – You may check into your rooms at the Cavendish from 1500 hrs – before a welcome drink at 1830 hrs – tables for dinner in the hotel restaurant will be reserved for those who have chosen the option to dine in the hotel.
Monday 1 March – Coach transfer (time to be confirmed) for train departing Paddington at 0900. Arrival at Cardiff Central station around 1300 hrs – time in the city to view the parade, visit Cardiff Castle or the museums). Return to Cardiff station to board the train back to London late afternoon arriving Paddington around 2100 hrs. (There is an option at additional cost not to alight at Cardiff but to continue and return from Swansea). Coach transfer back to the hotel.Tuesday 2 March – Leisurely breakfast before departure.
