Autumn Five Star Luxury in Bath
An exclusive visit to Badminton House
By kind permission of the Duke of Beaufort
Private visit and lunch at Longleat House
Westonbirt Arboretum and the
Cotswold Manor at Chavenage

From the Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel
01 - 03 November 2010 (2 nights)

We are delighted to offer again this popular tour staying in the comfort of one of Bath’s finest five-star hotels.  The Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel with its award winning restaurant and luxury spa is superbly located to enjoy a tour that now includes a privileged visit to Badminton House, family home of the Duke and Duchess of Beaufort, and the historic and much loved Elizabethan house at Chavenage.  Also an exclusive tour of Longleat House, including many rooms not normally on view.  There is a magnificent collection of pictures, porcelain and tapestries to be found in the state rooms, but Lord Bath’s fantastic and exuberant murals, found in the newly refurbished private family wing of the house, really add a very unusual legacy for future generations. Autumn is peak time to visit the National Arboretum at Westonbirt; weather and season permitting, there should be a good display of colour.

Monday 1 November
Arrive and check into the hotel before welcome drink and dinner.

Tuesday 2 November:
Badminton House lies in the heart of the Gloucestershire countryside, situated in a beautiful deer park that hosts the world-famous Badminton Horse Trials. There is a wealth of interest from architecture to paintings, furniture and family history.   Although a large house full of treasures, it remains very much a private family home and is very rarely open to visitors. Refreshments in the Great Hall before a tour given by the architectural curator, John Harris.

The National Arboretum at Westonbirt, where the autumn colour recently ranked as one of the world’s top 30 unmissable spectacles, displays the historic collection of over 3000 different trees and shrubs contributing to the famous autumn palette.  Time to explore the Old Arboretum, venture further to the Silk Wood, or just enjoy lunch in the restaurant. Continue then to Chavenage House, a peaceful Cotswolds Manor still retaining the warmth of a family home and virtually unchanged for 400 years. The medieval hall, oak panelled and tapestry rooms combine with great historical interest and legends. Enjoy a private tour given by a member of the family before refreshments.  Return to the hotel before dinner.

Wednesday 3 November
Depart for Longleat House for this private visit to enjoy a guided tour of the great works of art in the main building, then enter a part of the house featuring a world of astonishing colour, energy and imagination. Lunch will be provided before returning to Bath.
